Laser Services Q & A
What are laser facial peels?
At Sterling Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Mathieson offers the MicroLaserPeel® by Sciton®. This peel removes the outermost layers of your skin to reveal fresh, brighter skin cells. It’s effective in treating wrinkles, scars, brown spots, and uneven pigmentation.
The Sciton’s South Beach Peel® combines the benefits of the MicroLaserPeel and BBL™ (broadband light) therapy. Men and women with mild-to-moderate sun damage benefit from this variation. During a session, you’ll first experience the BBL therapy and then the MicroLaserPeel in a treatment time that lasts about 30 minutes.
What laser treatments are available for rosacea?
Rosacea is a chronic skin condition characterized by redness, swelling, and pus-filled bumps on your skin. While rosacea cannot be cured, laser therapy in the form of IPL (intense pulsed light) photofacials can help manage your symptoms.
These photofacials can also improve the signs of:
- Sun damage
- Mild acne scars
- Dark circles around the eyes
- Fine lines around the eyes and mouth
The procedure is also effective on any unwanted brown spots that mar your complexion. IPL photofacials require no downtime and results emerge with time as your skin repairs itself. These facials also help remove unsightly sun spots, too.
How do lasers remove unwanted hair?
At Sterling Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Mathieson uses IPL technology to direct high-energy pulses of light to remove hair from many areas, including the:
- Face
- Back
- Legs
- Bikini line
- Underarms
- Chest
Laser hair removal targets the hair follicles and destroys them so hair can no longer grow. Since hair grows in cycles, a series of treatments is required to affect all hair when it’s in a growth cycle. Laser hair removal offers permanent thinning of hair and requires no downtime.
What is SkinTyte™?
SkinTyte provides an effective way to tighten loose sagging skin. This accessory to Sciton’s BBL system uses laser energy to coagulate soft tissue and boost collagen production. Collagen is a natural compound in your skin that makes it taut and smooth. SkinTyte can be applied to numerous areas, including the face, neck, abdomen, and arms.
What is laser skin resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing, known as a laser peel, uses heat energy to remove the damaged outer layer of skin to reveal a smoother, younger look. Laser resurfacing can reduce the appearance of:
- Sun damage
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Uneven pigmentation
- Superficial scarring
At Sterling Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, Dr. Mathieson uses the ProFractional™ (Erbium) laser by ScitonⓇ to vaporize the surface skin and reveal the undamaged layer beneath. The laser represents the latest advance for the treatment of aging and sun-damaged skin. Erbium laser resurfacing is a procedure specifically designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face with less heating or burning of surrounding tissue as compared to other laser treatments.
