Cool Sculpting Q & A

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting requires no needles, no incisions, no special diets, and no supplements. The technology targets and cools fat cells in specific treatment areas to disrupt their integrity. The disrupted fat cells eventually die and are eliminated through your body’s natural waste-removal systems.

The technology is cleared by the FDA and provides natural, noticeable results.

What areas can be treated with CoolSculpting?

Everyone has different fat-loss goals, and CoolSculpting can help you obtain many of them, including offering visible fat loss:

  • In the thighs
  • On the abdomen and flanks
  • Along the bra line
  • On the back
  • Underneath the buttocks
  • In the upper arms

Talk to Dr. Mathieson about your aesthetic goals to determine how CoolSculpting can help you.

How soon will I see results of CoolSculpting?

You may start to notice results as soon as three weeks following treatment. Optimal results occur after three months, once your body has had time to eliminate all of the disrupted fat cells.

Does CoolSculpting hurt?

CoolSculpting sessions can cause pulling and pushing sensations as the device rolls over your skin. You feel intense cooling for the first 1-2 minutes, but then treatment areas begin to feel numb. Most people relax during the treatment and usually read, nap, or play games on their phones.

Does CoolSculpting require downtime?

Because CoolSculpting involves no incisions, needles, or blood loss, it requires no downtime. You can go right back to all of your daily activities following a session. Some people do have mild redness, bruising, tingling, or discomfort right after treatment, but these effects don’t last very long.

How long do CoolSculpting results last?

Fat cells treated with CoolSculpting are eliminated completely, so they cannot plump back up or regenerate. As long as you maintain a healthy weight and lifestyle, the results should be permanent.

When will I see results?

You may start to see changes as quickly as three weeks after your treatment and will experience the most dramatic results after one to three months. Your body continues flushing fat cells for up to four to six months after treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

While some patients have just one session, you may appreciate the improved results you get with multiple sessions. Meet with Dr. Mathieson in the weeks after your treatment to determine if more CoolSculpting sessions will help you get closer to your aesthetic goals. He is there for your initial and follow-up consultations and supports you through the entire process. He wants you to be happy with your results.
