Incorporating Injectables into Your Normal Beauty Routine

Do you cleanse, tone, and moisturize, but still feel unhappy when you look in the mirror? Perhaps it's time to add a new weapon to your skin care arsenal — injectables.

Here at Sterling Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery in Sarasota, Florida, Dr. Mark Mathieson and our highly trained team offer a wide range of options to help you meet your goals of improving your shape and enhancing your appearance. Whether you're looking for plastic surgery or a minimally invasive procedure like injectables, you receive personalized attention and the best possible results.

The scoop on injectables

Everything from sun exposure and smoking to genetics contributes to the aging of your skin. Fortunately, whether you're experiencing wrinkles, sagging skin, or shallow areas of the face, there’s a type of injectable that can help.

Botox®

With over 7 million procedures performed annually, Botox® is the most popular minimally invasive cosmetic treatment available. The medication is derived from a neurotoxin found in the natural environment, and it reduces wrinkles and fine lines by paralyzing the muscles underneath them. Botox is frequently used to address horizontal forehead lines, frown lines between your eyebrows, and crow's feet.

Dermal fillers

Dermal fillers help add volume and hydration resulting in plumper, youthful-looking skin. We use Juvéderm® products that contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that the body naturally produces. Juvéderm® fillers help reduce facial wrinkles and folds and also restore facial volume by plumping hollow contours and deep skin depressions as well as smoothing out acne scars.

Kybella®

Kybella injections can help smooth the silhouette for people who have moderate-to-severe fat under the chin known as submental fat or a "double chin." Multiple injections are given during a treatment, and some people may need multiple sessions at least a month apart. Kybella contains a substance that helps rid your body of under-chin fat for a slimmer profile without surgery.

Benefits of injectables

While you will feel a slight pinch with each injection, injectables are minimally invasive and treatment is quick. If you’re concerned about the discomfort, you may ask for a topical anesthetic. Additionally, certain Juvéderm products help ease discomfort with lidocaine as one of the ingredients.

There is no downtime with injectables, and you can resume your daily activities right after your treatment. Mild redness or bruising may appear at the injection sites, but it should fade within a couple of days.

A decrease in wrinkles will occur within 24-48 hours after your Botox injections, and results last from 3-4 months.

You’ll be able to see the effects of dermal fillers immediately, which then soften over several days. Plumper, more youthful-looking skin typically lasts anywhere from 6-18 months, depending on the filler.

For best results you should maintain your typical beauty care routine after treatment and schedule regular touch-up treatments as needed.
