Diminish Those Unwanted Love Handles with CoolSculpting®

Diminish Those Unwanted Love Handles with CoolSculpting®

If you’re not in love with your love handles, maybe it’s time to consider CoolSculpting®. CoolSculpting is a noninvasive, nonsurgical cosmetic procedure that eliminates fat from stubborn areas by freezing the fat cells with no cuts, anesthesia, or instruments entering your body.

Dr. Mark Mathieson and the team of aesthetic experts at Sterling Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, PA offer CoolSculpting body contouring services to reduce fat accumulating around your abdominal and hip areas.

Here’s what you need to know about using CoolSculpting to eliminate love handles.

What causes love handles?

Consuming more calories than you burn results in fat cell accumulation. Fat cells can settle anywhere on your body, but they often find their way to your waist or hips, creating “love handles.” Love handles are more common as you age, and your risk of developing them increases if you:

CoolSculpting is not a treatment for obesity. Instead, the procedure helps remove small areas of extra fat that have resisted diet and exercise.

If you are within 20 to 30 pounds of your ideal weight and lead an active, healthy lifestyle, Dr. Mathieson can use CoolSculpting to diminish your unwanted love handles.

How does CoolSculpting work?

CoolSculpting is based on cryolipolysis, an FDA-approved fat reduction method that uses freezing temperatures to break down fat cells, which reduces fat by an average of 20%. The cold temperature doesn’t affect the skin or underlying tissue but freezes the fat cells.

Dr. Mathieson applies the cold temperature to the treatment area for 35 to 60 minutes. It is not painful, but some people experience soreness in the treatment area similar to what you might feel after an intense workout. Also, you may have mild discoloration, stinging, or itchiness after a treatment.

Over the next four to six months after the CoolSculpting procedure, the killed fat cells exit your body naturally.

Results from CoolSculpting are permanent

When the CoolSculpting procedure freezes away fat cells, they cannot regrow and they can’t move to another area of your body — they are gone forever. But it’s important to keep in mind that if you gain weight in the future, new fat cells can accumulate around your hips and waist.
