Laser light is absorbed by water or dark pigments in our body's tissues (such as melanin in the skin and hemoglobin in the blood) and converted to heat. A variety of functional and cosmetic skin problems can be treated with lasers. These lasers are often specialized to handle a particular type of problem; there is no "cure-all" laser capable of correcting all problems.
Lasers offer many advantages over traditional, mechanical technology, including "bloodless" surgery, reduced risk of infection, less scarring, high precision, limited injury, and faster procedures.
MicroLaser Peel
The MicroLaser Peel by Sciton® removes the outermost skin layers to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, scars and acne scars, brown spots and uneven pigmentation. MicroLaser peels offer a deeper peel (20-50 microns) than microdermabrasion (10-15 microns) and light chemical peels but a gentler peel than full laser resurfacing.
Results
You will notice an immediate improvement in skin texture and tightness after a MicroLaser Peel treatment. The results of each treatment last approximately 6-12 months. You may benefit from a series of treatments rather than just one. Your doctor will work with you to create an individualized treatment plan.

IPL PhotoFacial
PhotoFacial is a non-abrasive and non-invasive rejuvenation of your skin using the remarkable new technology of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL). IPL PhotoFacials can improve the signs of sun damage, rosacea and brown spots on the face, hands and body. It has also been used to reduce the appearance of mild acne scars, dark circles around the eyes and fine lines around the eyes and mouth.
The IPL PhotoFacial hand piece is gently pressed to the skin and painless pulses of light are emitted. Usually 4-6 treatment sessions lasting about 20 minutes each will provide you with beautiful results.
There is no recuperation time – with an IPL PhotoFacial you can return to work or resume your normal activities on the same day. You will notice a gradual, natural-looking improvement in your skin with time. IPL is a safe solution tailor-made to your skin type and condition.

Laser Hair Removal
Forget shaving, waxing, tweezing and electrolysis – Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology provides long-lasting hair removal on any area of the body. IPL photoepilation uses high-energy pulses of light to remove unwanted hair from the face, back, legs, bikini line and other areas without damaging nearby tissue. First, a cold gel is applied to the skin. Then the IPL hand piece is moved back and forth across the selected area. Hair beneath the skin surface absorbs the light and heats up, loosening from the follicles and eventually falling out. Patients can return to work and all regular activities immediately after the procedure. Hair begins immediately and is long-lasting, with some permanent thinning. Several treatments may be desired for optimal results.

SkinTyte™
In late 2006, Sciton (Palo Alto, Calif.), an innovator in
the development of modular aesthetic devices, introduced the SkinTyte™ accessory for its Broadband Light (BBL™) system. As with other skin tightening systems, the SkinTyte™ is used for selective photo-coagulation of soft tissue to selectively target and treat dermal collagen, effecting collagen contraction. Used in conjunction with an integrated thermoelectric cooler to cool the epidermis prior to, during and after treatment, patient discomfort is reduced, and thermal injury to non-target skin and skin structures is minimized.

Because discomfort is minimal, many practitioners find they do not require an anesthetic. At 15 x 45 mm, the large spot size of the BBL enables quick treatment of large surface areas and faster treatment times for skin tightening. The treatment speed is up to 1.5 centimeters per second, thereby increasing patient throughput. For smaller and hard to reach areas, the BBL offers 15 x 15 mm spot.

Practitioners anecdotally report excellent results from SkinTyte™, on various body areas including the face, neck, abdomen and arms. Some patients see immediate results, while most experience continued improvement over a 30 to 60 day period.

Laser Skin Resurfacing
Laser skin resurfacing, commonly called a laser peel, removes the outer, damaged layer of skin to reveal a smoother, younger look. Laser resurfacing can reduce the appearance of sun damage, wrinkles, fine lines, uneven pigmentation and superficial scarring, usually on the face. A carbon dioxide (CO2) laser beam of precisely focused light vaporizes the surface skin and reveals the undamaged layer beneath. Procedure time varies depending on the size and condition of the area being treated.

Erbium laser skin resurfacing
The Erbium laser is the latest advance for the treatment of aging and sun-damaged skin. Erbium laser resurfacing is a procedure specifically designed to remove superficial and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face. The Erbium laser produces less heating or burning of surrounding tissues than other lasers used for resurfacing. This allows your doctor to gently and comfortably vaporize the damaged skin cells layer by layer. Most cases require only a local or topical anesthetic. Recent studies have shown that the Erbium laser stimulates the production of collagen, creating a tightening and smoothing of the skin.
